Location suggestions for a family session:
* Your home – You’ll be amazed at how great this location is! Children (and pets) tend to be more relaxed in their own home. They have their own toys, their own room, etc. While we’ll want to aim for morning or late afternoon sessions for an outdoor session, an indoor session has many mid-day options. Size is not much of a factor and we can work around the kids mess.
* Playgrounds – Ideal for action shots and natural smiles. Our favorite playground is at City Park in Portsmouth, VA.
* Parks – There are too many parks in Hampton Roads to mention. Our favorite park for family portraits is City Park in Portsmouth, VA (map). There are multiple locations in the park, including a duck pond, docks, playgrou nd, and even an old train track and depot. Another great park is Huntington Park (map) in Newport News, VA.
* Beaches – We prefer the beach under the Lesner bridge (map). The best time of day for a beach shot is sunset/early evening.
* Historic Downtown areas – For timeless portraits, perfect for engagement session and senior portraits. We prefer Olde Towne Portsmouth (map), Ghent (map), and Downtown Hampton (map). Although not a historic area, VA Beach Towne Center (map) offers some excellent backdrops.
Dress suggestions for a family session:
* White shirt and khakis or jeans – Looks great at the beach or park.

* Like Colors – Another option is to wear different shades or patterns of the same color.

* Different Colors – If you do it right, wearing different colors can look really good.
